God doesn’t want you in debt3 min read

‘Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law. ‘ Romans 13:8 NLT

Our society has normalized debt. But what really gets us into debt? FEAR! The fear of missing out, or not having enough, the fear of the future.

What does the bible say about debt?

Living in debt is not God’s design for His children. He has made provision for all our needs. God provides for all of our needs, but we must partner with Him. This partnership begins with good stewardship.

God doesn’t want you in debt. And I’ll get into the why a little later. Instead, He wants you to steward what He has given you to His glory. Being a good steward means being faithful with whatever you have been endowed with. Living within those means without spending on what you cannot afford in a specific season of your life.

The bible tells us that ‘The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower becomes the lender’s slave. ‘ Proverbs 22:7 NASB.

“The rich rules over the poor and the borrower becomes the lender’s slave”

Proverbs 22:7 (NASB)

Debt binds you to the person you are indebted to. God has made you free to live and enjoy all things that pertain to life. This means all debt is bad debt. Think about it, how can debt like taking out a mortgage be good, when you can lose that same home?

Getting into and staying in debt assumes that God is not able to make available the funds and resources you need. It paralyzes you from living an abundant life. Instead, focus on God as your source and sufficiency. In Him is an abundant supply of all things good.

What is the Secrect to Financial Success?

The most devastating blow to your faith is to believe that God is the taker instead of the giver. When your finances do not seem to go the way they should, it is important to assess the principles that govern success. And God tells us that when we study and apply consistently these biblical laws, we shall yield the greatest success- Joshua 1:8. And that goes for your finances too.

Therefore, what we believe about God in the area of finances determines how fruitful we become. When that perception is skewed, fears may creep in and cripple us from living an abundant life.

True success in all six key areas that we covered in this series, comes from the Word of God. It has been given to us to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven, and these mysteries (secrets and principles) are revealed through the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 13:10, 1 Corinth 2:10
